SEASONS 1995-1998

The Jaguars kicked off their first four years with a bang, reaching the playoffs in 1996, 1997, and 1998. The miraculous run to the AFC Championship Game during the 1996 season was historical, setting a new standard for expansion franchises to find early success in the NFL. YEAR 1

(4-12)

The season started off with veteran QB Steve Beuerlein at the helm, but QB Mark Brunell played in 13 games, becoming a cornerstone for 9 years. LT Tony Boselli was drafted  #2 overall. The Jaguars' first-ever win didn't happen until Week 5 vs. the Houston Oilers, winning 17-16. One of the worst losses in franchise history took place in Week 16 @ Detroit when the Lions shut out the Jaguars 44-0.

YEAR 2

(9-7)

Nobody could've predicted the events of the miracle 1996 season. After starting the season (4-7), things seemed grim for the Jaguars. But after the team's first-ever overtime win in Week 13 (30-27 vs. Baltimore), the Jaguars went on a winning streak to get to (8-7). The stunning FG miss by Falcons K Morten Andersen in the season finale put the Jaguars in the playoffs for the first time. The historical run continued with shocking road playoff wins at Buffalo and Denver before ending in New England in the AFC Championship Game.

YEAR 3

(11-5)

The Jaguars scored 40 points for the first time ever with a 40-13 thrashing of the Giants in Week 2. The team had their highest ranking for points scored (3rd in the NFL), a franchise record that still stands. The 1997 season saw the Jaguars clinch their first-ever AFC Central Division championship en route to another playoff berth. However, the Broncos exacted revenge on the Jaguars in a 42-17 rout during the Wild Card Round.

YEAR 4

(11-5)

RB Fred Taylor, the franchise's leader in rushing yards, was drafted #9 in the 1st round. He rewarded the Jaguars with 1,223 rushing yards and 14 TDs in his rookie campaign. The Jaguars started the season (5-0). The quick start helped the Jaguars win their second-straight AFC Central Division title. Jacksonville had its first-ever home playoff game in the Wild Card Round, beating the Patriots 25-10 (still the ONLY time the Jaguars have beaten New England). The season ended against the New York Jets the next week 34-24.
